Fire Extinguisher Installs

Portable fire extinguishers are required in buildings in the UK to prevent and protect against fires, and to keep people and assets safe:

• Legal Requirement: The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) requires businesses and other premises to have fire-fighting equipment, including portable extinguishers, where there is a risk of fire.
• Fire Prevention: Portable extinguishers can prevent small fires from spreading out of control and affecting escape routes.
• Save Lives: Fire extinguishers can save lives in the event of a fire.

The number of fire extinguishers required depends on the results of a fire risk assessment. This assessment considers factors such as:

• The Nature of the Business
• Any Other Systems Already Present, such as Sprinklers
• Specialist Firefighting Equipment

Fire extinguishers should be located near room exits, in corridors, and close to specific areas of risk. They should be accessible but not so close that they could become inaccessible in the event of a fire.

It’s important to provide fire extinguisher training to staff so that they understand the differences between the different types of fire extinguishers. Using the wrong fire extinguisher can make a fire worse and increase the risk to people and property.
